Conspiracy, Australian Alps, 2022, oil on canvas, 47.5 x 61 cm.
This is an unusual work for me - my first snow scene ever in oils. It is of the Main Range of the Australian Alps (the Snowy Mountains) from the heights of Guthega. The painting features a small conspiracy or group of ravens (two visible), a unique Australian sub-species (Corvus coronoides) that frequents this frigid winter wonderland.
This panoramic scene is based upon an en plein-air sketch I did whilst on August 2022 ski holidays - see below. An hour sitting in the snow in sub-zero temperatures with this amazing crisp clear view before me. This painting is allegorical – it speaks of what subsequently happened to me on this ski adventure! I hope you enjoy.
