Toward Car-rang-gel, 2023, oil on canvas, 70 x 100 cm.
Looking from Edward’s Beach Balmoral on Sydney Harbour toward North Head (Car-ang-gel) - a significant sacred site for the first nation Gayamagal People. This imposing headland was once the site used by their medicine men and women healers for spiritual ceremonies and rituals. In October 2023 Australia votes in a Referendum to enshrine Australia’s indigenous peoples in the Australian Constitution and to give them a permanent voice. This painting speaks of this Voice from the Heart.
Balmoral is also a gem in the crown of spectacular modern Sydney. Located on the affluent Lower North Shore, facing the entrance to Sydney Heads, it offers a captivating vista for all. With first rate facilities Balmoral provides a beachside haven for Sydneysiders and tourists alike. It’s been a favourite spot throughout my life, and here I often do my early morning lap swimming or go to meet friends and associates for coffee or a meal.
Can these two views of Car-rang-gel / North Head from Balmoral be reconciled?
