In Italy I became enamoured with the Art Deco shapes of the Pinus Pinea, commonly known as the Umbrella Tree. For me they offer a certain intrigue, and thus I placed a partly eclipsed moon within this composition to further heighten the mystery.
The following was a quick plein-air charcoal sketch of this scene.
