Ormiston Gorge, 2018, Western MacDonnell Ranges, Northern Territory, acrylic on board, 41 x 30 cm.
This work was a Finalist in the prestigious Mosman Art Prize 2018.
Called Tjoritja Ormiston Gorge and Pound is a sacred site of the local Arunda People. Located in the Western MacDonald Ranges 135 kms west of Alice Springs, Ormiston Pound is a ring of mountains with the Gorge at its centre.
Within the painting you can see the bent, twisted and folded sheets of quartzite on the Ormiston cliff face, a geological feature visible throughout the Western MacDonald Ranges. Ormiston offers an all-year round waterhole up to 14 metres deep and is a refuge for the near extinct Long-tailed Dunnart and the Central Rock Rat.
